IT - Systems Administrator

Summary of Position

ACZ Laboratories is looking for a highly motivated system administrator to join our small IT team. This team member is responsible for effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, maintenance and documentation of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual ensures that systems hardware, operating systems, software and other infrastructure components and procedures meet security and organizational needs. 

ACZ offers flexible schedule, fantastic co-workers, visionary management, and a casual and comfortable office environment, all set in a beautiful mountain town in the Colorado Rockies. **Powder clause included for those epic ski days, and flexible schedules for when the fish are biting or the trails are calling. Potential to work hybrid remote after initial training period.

Responsibilities

  • Install/update/configure servers, domain, operating systems and applications, storage, peripherals, services, settings, directories, etc. as appropriate for proper maintenance and evolution of IT systems and in accordance with operational requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain infrastructure, including servers, firewalls, datacenter, databases, and other processes to ensure uptime and efficient operations.
  • Work to mitigate vulnerabilities by monitoring the systems daily and responding promptly to security concerns. Upgrade systems and processes as required to maintain a secure network. 
  • Install/update/configure workstations, mobile devices, printers and other front-end systems and software as well as timely, effective support of users.
  • Work with laboratory staff and/or third-party vendors to promptly diagnose and resolve systems or application problems.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of all front-end hardware, software, licensing, etc.
  • Collaborate effectively with ACZ’s LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) software development/database staff, providing support as appropriate to ensure uninterrupted use of LIMS.
  • Research, recommend and implement advancements in technologies used at ACZ, including innovative and, where possible, automated approaches to system administration and other tasks.
  • Research, test and implement appropriate system(s) for monitoring, managing and maintaining front-end systems.
  • Perform/develop/enhance back-end system administration tasks and capabilities.
  • Monitor, maintain and regularly test backup systems to ensure data redundancy and preservation consistent with ACZ’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide on-call support outside of business hours, along with the IT Manager. 

Required Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or at least 2 years of related experience
  • Experience administering/troubleshooting Windows, Linux, Cisco, Active Directory, DCHP, DNS, O365, Oracle databases, Veeam, Hyper-V, LAN/WANs.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple projects in a prioritized fashion.
  • Strong communicator who can maintain healthy professional relationships with internal workforce.
  • Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language helpful but not required. 

ACZ’s Environment
ACZ has a casual and comfortable office environment, with regular opportunities to connect with your team or volunteer in the community with other co-workers. You would be joining ACZ’s IT team of 2 other people (LIMS Administrator and IT Manager with technical experience) in a small company of approximately 65 employees. ACZ uses Windows OS workstations with our LIMS database on a Linux server.
